Weekly Blitz Office Occupied on 22 Feb 2009 by Ruling Party Thugs in Bangladesh

May we draw your kind attention to the fact that on February 22, 2009 at around 10:00 am in the morning, office of our newspaper at Skylark Point, 8th Floor, 24/A Bijoy Nagar, Dhaka -1000, under Paltan Police Station was attacked by a gang of 35-40 armed thugs led by one Md. Ruhul Amin and Shamim [identifying himself to be an officer of DGFI] and they physically assaulted our editor Mr. Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, looted his laptop and other valuables & properties and illegally occupied our office.
 
I was at my residence at that time and on receipt of information I immediately contacted Paltan Police Station and informed about the incident. Police rushed to the spot. Police rescued our editor and other employees and let them leave the premises thus allowing the gang to occupy our office. Female members of our office were also locked in a room by the miscreants and humiliated.
 
A case has been lodged with the Paltan Model Police Station on the same day in this regard. Case No. 65. Under Section 143, 448, 323, 342, 384, 380, 427 and 506.
 
But till date, neither there is any information regarding any investigation into the matter nor any of the perpetrators have been arrested by police. Our office still remains illegally occupied by the perpetrators.
 
It may also be mentioned here that, the miscreants are continuing to give threats over phone to the editor and other members of our newspapers to withdraw the case. Otherwise, they are threatening of attacking the residence of our editor at House No. 36, Road No. 2, Sector No. 13, Uttara, Dhaka. 
 
Since one of the perpetrators claimed himself to be Shamim and an official of DGFI, may we draw your valued attention to this matter, and we believe, being a responsible and committed official of our nation, you will very kindly look into this matter and instruct the officers concerned to kindly investigate and take immediate steps as per law and oblige us thereby.
